Share a real COM port among several programs

Olga Weis Olga Weis

If you are a lucky owner of a personal weather station, you are likely to know how to share a serial port connected to your meteorological station between several applications simultaneously. If not, I’ll describe the simplest and fastest way.

First and foremost, you need to select an efficient serial port splitter software that will help you accomplish this task. Serial Port Splitter seems to be the best option for this scenario. It is simple to use and is packed with a host of powerful features that will allow you to create various bundles of real and virtual serial ports.

So, once you installed the software on your local computer, you should start it and go to the "Share" tab.
1
Select "Share port" and specify the name of the port that will be shared.
2
After that, add all programs that will get access to the shared port. You should also set the custom rights for each of them at this stage. The access rights include "Read", "Write", and "Control" options.
In the Pair tab, select Add a new pair
3
Finally, you hit "Create" and get a bundle with a shared port in the Bundle tree.

Starting from this moment, all programs will be capable of communicating with your weather station via the shared serial port. What’s important is that they’ll be able to do this simultaneously.
